Just finished the bass tracks for our next CD, enitled "Racket of Three" (for the record, I used my Danelectro Longhorn) and I dont mind saying that the 12 songs we have recently layed down is some of the heaviest (and softest) stuff yet.

We started out thinking we would do an acoustic record (Like Led Zep 3) but we reconnected with Joe the Cat (who played a cameo role on the 1st CD) and then I found a demo of 5 songs that Tom had made riffs of back in 2001. Out of those riffs came the songs "Mister Rebound", "Sidewinder", "Valentine" and "Play Some Rock & Roll (She's Comin' Over)" the great, long lost track that we would have included on the last record, had I not packed it all into boxes and moved.

We have had some great shows in the past month. Theo's was awesome, and Sully's was pretty good too. Singing and playing bass ain't easy, and it was one of the reasons why I switched to guitar (well that and the fact that strings were/are really expensive) but my desire to make the music more primitive is the driving force behind my brave and crazy attempts to conjure up images of Phil Lynott and Gene Simmons: Brutal, sometimes a little ugly, but dead-on to the point! Well, change is constant in this old world, and after 5 years of playing live with the same great lineup - Tom and I decided it was time to shake things up a little. We have decided to record our 3rd CD much in the tradition of Led Zeppelin 3, that is, one "side" acoustic and the other electric. We have been performing 3 of the dozen or so new songs (called "Rummy Hop", "So Wonderful" and "Brandy On the Shelf"). So far the vibe has been very bluesy and a bit on the Psychedelic, which is great! New drummer Joe Lemieux has a Charlie Watts kind of vibe, and I am very much in search of the OVEREND Watts vibe on bass (minus the platform boots and the bat wings, of course!). We look forward to these new shows over the next two months (practically more than what we have done in the past 5 years combined!) with the power trio and pairing up with our friends in Doubting Tom (an original modern pop outfit from Massachusetts). "I Should have worn Black" I thought. Then I saw the photos and I whispered to myself, ""The Horror"", but then I thought ""The Genius"". Sign onto the site, and you will see that the last time at the State House, Tom and I wore matching white (it's 1979 with you!), but this time, I showed up looking like I was in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reffer Band, and the rest of the guys showed up with the Rock and Roll look! Not that it matters, because we rocked harder than ever this time around (that counts getting the representatives of Vermont to succeed from 2001's Big E performance - sorry guys, but you had no amps and Tom decided to point his AC-30 directly AT You, because we took a 40 minute break, and when we came back, you were STILL playing). Anyways, despite the on again, off again nature of the sound, and the organizers acting like the only band they had ever heard play live was Air Supply, we enjoyed playing for all the good hearted souls of Hartfords State House Lunch break (and that means alot of you!) Thanks to Jeff, Mike and Tom for their rare instance of onstage color co-ordination, and unrelenting musical and emotional support. Re: "PSR&R"... Love that rock n' roll. This CD is stronger than your last one and I liked your last one. New one just seems more confident and strong, cleaner and kind of looser, more relaxed in the playing and singing. Rhythm section is killer tight. Also, very impressive production, mixing and textures. Few things stand out, sort of in order of songs, as I can remember them: That first chord of the first tune was so strong, wow, talk about setting the theme. Drum and acoustic guitar sort of break on the second song is inspired and that simi-hollowbody slide guitar is perfect in the song. Love that "Come on Back" song; Beatles-like (hi complement) with very modern punk feel; Leslie was so good I just smiled; and you used it sparingly so it really worked. That "Strawberry Hill" song has the best harmony guitars I've heard in a very long time; when the big trem comes in at the bridge it opens the song up; wonderful ideas and execution. Also, River Is Wide has a terrific Dead-style feel. I'd don't like the Dead much, but I've always liked that airy, open texture and Jerry's pretty, reverb lines. Tom, I've been listening to the CD now since I received it last week and by the way thanks for signing it for me. Anyway I thought I just pass on some thoughts on ""Play Some Rock & Roll". You guys did great job here I've been really enjoying the Album. I love the concept about the one guy who always shouts this phrase out in clubs and R&R dives across the country. I remember you telling me this months ago and thinking this should one be interesting. You know as Rock music has evolved over the years sometimes it looses it's essence. You hear many Rock Albums but not Rock & Roll Albums, you have made a Rock & Roll Album. IMHO the songs are fun, the rhythms are grinding, bouncy, dance-able, and your guitar work is wonderful you should be proud ! Scott's singing with just a touch of attitude I just love and your rhythm section is dead on. I think my favorite cuts are ""I Get Around Too Much"", Blame It All On You"", and 'Little Live Thing"". I love the breakdown in ""Blame It All On You"" where it suddenly it's just acoustic guitar and vocals, I thought that was just real tasty. I went out to the MS site and saw all the new pics of you working with your gear and was able to see some of the axes and amps you've told be about. Great Job, Great CD. Reading the biography of Paul Kossoff,and listening to a whole string of Free albums in recent weeks, my mind drifted back to the London pub blues-band scene of the 60s and 70s.We all were aware of Koss' greatness,even then but were equally unaware he would become such a model to blues guitarist students over 30 years later! When Jimi passed away we were all so depressed, but when it came to Paul Kossoff's turn life had become so surreal!
It's only now that I find the time to grieve such a passing, with those great old recordings losing none of their original stinging sensation! I'm so proud to have witnessed such a talent first hand,and to relate the experience to a never dwindling army of young pretenders! Thank you for having this great web-site available to all!

I think the 'first' Tom I knew was T-bone of the Dirty Bones. I remember going to see him and the band play at some place in Willimantic in the early 90's. It was a very late night, but well worth it. I also remember going to see them at the Muni and Toad's. Then, Tom became a Delray and I was able to enjoy their music a few times as well.
